Who we are – What we want – What we are planning
The German Association of Chinese Studies (DVCS), based in Bochum, was founded in spring 1990 at the Humboldt University of Berlin by scholars of Chinese studies, with the aim of promoting the study of China in the German Democratic Republic through joint scholarly activities and academic exchanges. Shortly after, following the abolishment of the inner German border, these activities extended to universities in the Federal Republic of Germany. By now, the DVCS regards herself as an association for scholars of Chinese studies from all German-speaking countries.
The annual DVCS conferences help to achieve this aim by serving as a platform for the presentation of new research results and for academic discussions, not only for members of the association but also for all with an interest in China. The DVCS attaches special importance to providing a discussion forum for young Sinologists, an organizational roof for research projects, and opportunities for publication.
You can find a more detailed record of the associatio's history here.
As a recognized non-profit organization, the DVCS acts altruistically and does not pursue economic or party-political objectives. [Application for membership | By-laws]
